The Conan Doyle 'Ghost' Painting


This $37,000 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle 'ghost' painting is known across the planet. The painting is said to be inspired by the psychics spirits of dead soldiers and bought by a grieving Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who lost a son in WW1. According to the latest news this painting is going to be set in an auction as part of the Owston Collection in Sydney, in a Bonhams' sale that will take place on June 25-26.

The painting by William Francis (Will) Longstaff (Australian, 1879-1953) titled 'The Rearguard (The spirit of ANZAC)' is huge oil on canvas measuring 53 9/16 x 106 5/16 inches.

According to the art specialist and collector this painting will take about A$20,000-40,000 (over US$37,000) if someone is interested to buy this remarkable piece. In 1928 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle purchased this painting directly from the artist for his own collection.

Spread in the news today the notable statement from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about his works He said that he wants to be remembering not with his Sherlock Holmes novels but instead he wants to be remembered for his psychic readings  work of art.

Bonhams, the international fine art auction house, is to sell the Owston Collection in Sydney on June 25-26. The sale will be held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay overlooking the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
